Two VSPs for work boat with X-bow design

The “Siem Moxie” is the first infield support vessel with an X-Bow design and Voith drive systems

The new infield support vessel “Siem Moxie”, currently being built at Fjellstrand AS shipyard in Norway for Siem Offshore AS, will be the first work boat with the Ulstein-designed X-bow fitted with two Voith Schneider Propellers (VSPs).

The 74m-long and 17m-wide "Siem Moxie" will be fitted with two electronically controlled VSPs of the size 28R5 ECS/234-2. They have a propulsion power of 1,850 kW each and will be arranged in the stern. The two VSPs will also be used for active roll stabilisation as well as for dynamic positioning (DP class 2). The entire propulsion system as well as the DP system are controlled centrally. The interfaces for propeller and roll stabilisation control will be provided by Voith.
Upon its delivery in spring 2014, the Norwegian owner intends to use the "Siem Moxie" for wind farm tasks and cable laying operations in the North Sea and the Atlantic.
