Keppel Offshore & Marine said its yard Keppel FELS has won an order from Dutch group Van Oord to build a high-specification trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD). One option has been converted into a firm order. The option was taken with a contract placed in May 2018 for two similar dredgers. This investment is part of a broader fleet renewal programme.
Expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2022, the TSHD will have a hopper capacity of 10,500m3. The first two vessels, Vox Ariane and Vox Apolonia, will be delivered in 2021. The series will be built to the requirements of classification society Bureau Veritas (BV) and will be LNG ready. The dredger will also be certified with the BV Green Passport and Clean Ship notations.
