Norway’s passenger shipping company, The Fjords, has commissioned the fully electric passenger vessel Legacy of The Fjords, joining the fleet of sightseeing catamarans on the country’s west coast.

Like its sister vessels Vision of the Fjords and Future of the Fjords, the 42.23m-long Legacy of The Fjords was designed and constructed by Norwegian shipyard Brødrene Aa. The NOK 130 million vessel, with capacity for 400 passengers, is propelled by two 450-kW electric motors and can cruise at speeds of up to 16 knots.

The company and shipbuilder have collaborated in the development of a 40m-long, glass-fibre, floating charging station housing a 2.4-MWh battery pack capable of recharging the vessels in about 20 minutes. The dock also stores consumables, other fuels and enables black water to be offloaded for treatment on land.
