Tersan Shipyard signs contract for a freezer stern trawler
Turkey’s Tersan Shipyard has an order to construct one 80m-long stern trawler. Customer is Niqitaq Fisheries from Canada. The newbuilding will be the 3rd vessel that Tersan builds for a Canadian Customer.
The 18m-wide trawler will be built and arranged for single and twin trawl operations to catch Greenland fish and shrimps. The frozen catch will be stored in freezer holds after processing and freezing. With a capacity of 1,320 tonnes of frozen-at-sea fish or 930 tonnes of shrimp, the vessel will be outfitted and equipped for fishing in the North Atlantic and Polar areas.
Designed by Skipsteknisk, the newbuilding will be built under supervision of DNV.
Niqitaq Fisheries is a fully owned subsidiary of Baffin Fisheries Company, Canada. Their current fleet consists of three factory fishing vessels while the new one will be the fourth and the biggest.
