Symphony orders Ecobox XL project cargo vessels

The Exobox XL type is an advanced development of shown Symphony Star (Source: Ferus Smit)

Dutch yard Ferus Smit has an order from ship operator Symphony Shipping, also based in the Netherlands, for two appr. 12,500dwt multi-purpose freighters. The vessels will be an evolution of the Ecobox and Ecobox DP series that the yard already delivered to Symphony over the recent years.

The new design will have its focus on loading extra-long cargo, such as windmill blades, while at the same time still maintaining good capabilities as a normal general cargo ship. The newbuildings will feature e.g. large floor space for project cargoes, including complete movable tween deck, cargo length 100m on tanktop and 112m on tweendecks, two cargo cranes, deckhouse placed on fore ship for better protection of deck cargo and enabling to load oversized items over the stern, with class notations like open top, Ice class 1A, Tier III and Green Passport.

The new Ecobox XL vessels are scheduled to be delivered end of 2022/early 2023.
