Swedish firm lands fuel cell contract
PowerCell Sweden AB has announced a contract worth EUR 6.9 million with “a leading European shipyard” for the development and delivery of a marine fuel cell system. Development and delivery of the 3-MW system is expected to take about three years.
Although neither the shipyard nor the fuel cell application were identified, PowerCell said in a statement that in view of the fact that the IMO has decided to halve emissions of greenhouse gases from commercial shipping by 2050 and considering the long lifetime of ships, zero emission vessels may have to set sail as early as 2030.
