Svitzer Europe has ordered a Damen 3213 azimuth stern drive (ASD) tug from Damen Shipyards Group to strengthen its operations in the Port of London. The 80-tonne bollard pull tug, Svitzer Thames, is due to arrive in London before the end of March and will start operating immediately.

The powerful 32m-long tug will provide a valuable new resource for Svitzer, as the towage company handles a growing number of very large container vessels calling in London.

“We are looking forward to adding Svitzer Thames to our London fleet at the end of Q1 this year,” commented Maurice McKeating, managing director of Svitzer UK South. “Svitzer Thames’ capabilities make it ideally suited to service the range of vessels that call at the Port of London, and particularly the increasingly large container vessels that are delivering cargo to one of the UK’s busiest ports. We look forward to the arrival of the Svitzer Thames and seeing our customers enjoy the added capability and efficiency that it will provide.”
