Strenghtening position as wellboat builder

Intership’s first order for a wellboat was placed in August last year (Source: Zamakona Yards)

Zamakona Yards, Spain, has won a new order from Norwegian customer Intership AS for a 2,500m3 wellboat to transport live fish. The 76m-long and 17m-wide vessel will be built at the facilities of Zamakona in Bilbao and is scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2022.

The new wellboat follows an order placed by Intership in August 2020, which is due to be delivered in the first quarter of 2022. The second vessel will be also based on a concept from Salt Ship Design.

Promoting good fish welfare, fish handling and biosecurity are of high priority in the design. The vessel will be equipped with energy recovery solutions and a large battery package to permit hybrid operation. It is also prepared for a large reverse osmosis system to clean fish tank water.

The new contract from Intership means Zamakona has a strong order book for the next years, the yard said.
