U.S. company Storylines said it has now signed a firm contract with Croatian yard Brodosplit to build an environmentally sustainable private residence ship. An initial contract for the vessel had been reported in early 2021.

Brodosplit, part of the DIV Group, has commenced the engineering phase of the 229m-long passenger vessel with 547 private residences on board which will be sold as apartments.

The ship, to be named MV Narrative, will have liquid natural gas (LNG) propulsion. It is different from a vacation cruise ship in that it is purposely built for residential life at sea. It is intended to be a floating community and includes a post office, school, library, hospital, bank, pools, office spaces and 20 restaurant and bar venues. It features a large wellness centre at sea with a 3,000m3 area for the spa and gym. The ship's amenities also include a garden farm and an open-air fitness deck with racquet sports, yoga sun deck and running track. Other initiatives onboard include converting waste into energy and growing produce at the solar-powered hydroponic garden. Pricing of the residences on the ship ranges from US$1 million to US$8 million for the lifetime of the vessel.
