U.S. yard Steiner Construction Company has signed a contract to design and construct an environmentally friendly tug. The order was placed by U.S. provider of marine transportation, American Commercial Barge Line (ACBL).

The 27m-long vessel will be propelled by EPA Tier 4 Mitsubishi engines, supplied by Laborde Products of the U.S. The twin engines will produce approx. 1912 kW.

“The addition of this new Tier 4 retractable towboat represents our commitment to providing our customers with innovative marine transportation solutions while minimising our impact on the environment,” said ACBL’s CEO, Mike Ellis.

Delivery of the vessel is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2023. The tug will support barge movements in the Port of Houston.
