Steel-cutting at Crist shipyard for plug-in hybrid ferry

Under construction no P317, Poland’s Crist shipyard has started construction of another environmentally friendly hybrid propulsion ferry for Finnish shipowner Finferries. The newbuilding is the continuation of a long-term cooperation between both companies. It is the third modern plug-in hybrid ferry of this type for Finferries.

The 70m-long vessel is designed by marine architects LMG Marine for operation in restricted waters, and specially designed for the Nauvo-Korppoo service in Finland. Energy for its route will be covered using only its batteries charged directly from shore during loading and unloading, while the diesel generator sets will only serve as a backup source of power in case of bad weather conditions. It will be able to transport up to 52 cars or a combination of trailers, trucks, buses and cars, as well as 200 passengers.
