Start of construction on Ovation of the Seas

Richard D. Fain, CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, pushed the button of the plasma torch as the first plate of steel was cut

The first piece of steel for the Ovation of the Seas, the third ship of the Quantum class for Royal Carribean International, was recently cut at Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, marking the official start of construction.

Delivery of the cruise ship is planned for the spring of 2016. Its sister ships, Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas, will be delivered in the autumn of 2014 and spring of 2015, respectively. The Quantum class ships will be 168,000gt and have a capacity of 4,200 passengers.
