SRV for GDF SUEZ

"GDF SUEZ Neptune"

The international energy provider GDF SUEZ has taken delivery of its first shuttle and regasification vessel (SRV), the "GDF SUEZ Neptune".

This vessel is co-owned by Höegh LNG and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. It was built at Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea and will serve on a long-term charter contract.

"GDF SUEZ Neptune" is equipped with its own LNG regasification system, allowing it to regasify and discharge natural gas under high pressure directly into a designated deep water port, such as the group’s Neptune LNG deep water port off the coast of Massachusetts, USA, to be commissioned early 2010.

This innovative LNG carrier was constructed at the Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) facility located on Geoje Island, South Korea. She is owned jointly by Höegh LNG and Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL), and will be operated by Höegh LNG for GDF SUEZ under a long-term time charter agreement.

The "GDF SUEZ Neptune" incorporates the reinforced GTT MKIII cargo containment system with a 145,000 cu.m capacity. She is fitted with three state-of-the-art regasification skids and is also fully capable of operating as standard LNG carriers.

The vessel is equipped with the Tri-Fuel Diesel Electric propulsion system. In 2006-2007, the Group received the first three Diesel Electric LNG carriers in the world, specifically built on its order, and mainly using the natural evaporation of the cargo as a fuel. This innovation makes it possible to achieve a very substantial improvement in overall propulsion efficiency and reduces the amount of greenhouse gas emissions. It has since been adopted by many other companies. The "GDF SUEZ Neptune" received the “Green Passport” from Det Norske Veritas (DNV) certifying the environmental considerations taken when constructing, operating and ultimately disposing of the vessel.

The group now counts 15 vessels in its fleet. In May 2010, GDF SUEZ will receive a second SRV, the "GDF SUEZ Cape Ann", sister-ship of the "GDF SUEZ Neptune".
