Space-saving sewage treatment system

RWO’s new sewage treatment system

Florian von Kempen, the company's chief sales officer, said the system "combines the success of our former wastewater series Biopure and WWT-LC with some new features that even our customers may not have thought about yet".
CleanSewage Bio's one-side-access, RWO pointed out, eliminates having to plan for maintenance space at both sides and the back of the system. Together with a very compact design, it said, the space requirement is up to 25% less than that of competing systems, depending on the capacity.
To make operation easier and lower failure rates as much as possible, RWO said it had developed an intuitive status control that can be checked at a glance. Using the traffic-light principle, three LEDs signal whether the system is running or intervention is necessary. Inside the switchbox, every aggregate can be controlled manually to adjust system settings to the individual travel route – a feature that RWO said brought savings in consumables and lowered the total cost of ownership.
What is more, RWO said it had made the treatment process much easier for the crew. The system works according to the proven biological two-chamber process, it said; only in the last stage is chlorination necessary. The chemicals used are non-flammable and typically employed daily at many places on a ship.
The system is also said to be substantially more hygienic. The biofilm carriers of the moving bed bioreactor (MBBR) are clustered in baskets; they can be easily removed from the tank and don't have to be taken out by hand or broom together with the organic load. The sieve holding back solids is now cleaned automatically; it can be emptied without contact with faeces. And non-degradable solids can be pumped out by the plant’s own discharge pump without disassembling the sieve.

The Bremen-based water and wastewater treatment specialist RWO has presented a new sewage treatment system, called CleanSewage Bio, that it says offers crew-friendly operation and significant space savings in the engine room thanks to one-side access.
