SMM Istanbul to be opened by Transport Minister of Turkey

It will feature manufacturers and equipment suppliers from all areas of the maritime industry and numerous shipyards, presenting their products and services. The first SMM Istanbul will be opened with the official ribbon cutting ceremony at 10.00 on 21 January by Binali Yildirim, Transport Minister of Turkey. Other prominent participants at the ceremony will include Kürsat Tüzmen, State Secretary for Export; Kadir Topbas, Mayor of Istanbul; Ali Torlak, Member of the Turkish Parliament and owner of Torlak shipyard; and Murat Bayrak, President of GISBIR, the Turkish Shipbuilders Association. These high-ranking representatives impressively underscore the important position of SMM Istanbul in Turkey.

Alongside visitors from all parts of the world, including in particular Turkey and the neighbouring Caspian Sea and Black Sea Regions, there will also be high-ranking international delegations visiting the fair. Delegations which have announced their presence include not only Europe’s major shipbuilding nations, but also Iran, Kuwait, Bulgaria, Russia and Ukraine. One of the Turkisch shipbuilders, the Tuzla Shipyard, will celebrate its 50th anniversary at SMM Istanbul.

The first SMM Istanbul event will be held at the ICEC-Istanbul Convention & Exhibition Centre from 21 to 23 January 2009, open daily from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m..
