Vietnamese yard Ha Long Shipbuilding has started building a second cruise vessel with a capacity of 100 passengers for Australia-based customer Emerald Waterways.

The 120m-long vessel Emerald Sakara is planned to be delivered in 2023. It will be a sister ship to the first vessel in the series, the Emerald Azzurra, which Emerald Cruises recently took delivery of. Over 80% of cabins on the vessels will feature balconies, and the larger suites will have an area of at least 100sq.m. Other onboard facilities will be a wellness centre with gym and spa, plus a marina platform from which passengers can take part in a variety of water-based activities like paddle boarding and diving. The newbuilding will also carry three tenders and two zodiacs launches for shore landings.

Glen Moroney, Founder and Chairman, Scenic Group (which includes Emerald Cruises and Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours) said upon delivery of Emerals Azzurra: “This yacht represents the next generation of yacht cruising, taking guests to new destinations with on board luxury amenities that are unlike any other small-ship experience. Her sister yacht – Emerald Sakara – will follow early next year, providing double the opportunities for guests to join us on board our ground-breaking vessels”.
