Semi-sub suitability survey completed

The Xin Guang Hua is said to be the world’s second largest semi-submersible

The survey embraced all aspects of the Cosco Shipping-owned unit to ensure that it meets the requirements of its charterer on the Upper Zakum oilfield, off the coast of Abu Dhabi, where Global Maritime is retained as Marine Warranty Surveyor.
The Guangzhou Shipyard-built vessel is 255m long, 68m wide and has a lift/transportation capacity of 98,000 tonnes. Its large open deck has a length of 208.4m, a breadth of 68m, and can be submerged by up to 16m, enabling the transport of large floating structures. The unit has a diesel-electric propulsion system with a power output of 10.5 MW.
David Sutton, CEO of Global Maritime, commented: “Whether it be its length, heavy-lift capabilities, tank capacities, advanced onboard systems or diesel-electric propulsion system, the Xin Guang Hua is a significant engineering accomplishment. We were therefore delighted to provide a comprehensive assessment of all aspects of this complex vessel. At all stages, we met client requirements and deadlines – a testament to the engineering, maritime and technical excellence of the Global Maritime team,” he added.
The semi-submersible is to be deployed on the Upper Zakum oilfield, the world’s fourth largest oilfield and the second largest offshore reserve. It is owned by the Zakum Development Company, a joint venture in which Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) holds a 60% majority stake and is operator, with partners ExxonMobil (28%) and Japan Oil Development Company (12%).
Global Maritime was set up in 1979 and offers services spanning the complete project lifecycle from engineering and design, construction and third-party verification through to marine warranty surveying, dynamic positioning, installation, risk management and decommissioning.

Stavanger-based Global Maritime Consultancy & Engineering has just completed a suitability survey on the world’s second largest semi-submersible, Xin Guang Hua, prior to its maiden voyage from China to the Arabian Gulf.
