Schottel to supply propulsion systems for expedition cruise vessel

A 196-passenger expedition cruise vessel under construction for Oceanwide Expeditions at Brodosplit in Croatia is to have main and auxiliary propulsion equipment supplied by Schottel.

The Janssonius, being built to Lloyd’s Register’s LR PC6 class, will have a Schottel controllable pitch propeller of type SCP 109 4-XG of 4,260 kW, diameter 3.6m, strengthened to meet Polar Class 6 requirements. A 350-kW Schottel transverse thruster of type STT 1 CP at the bow and a similar 500-kW thruster, type STT 2 CP at the stern, will assist vessel manoeuvrability. The propulsion system will be powered by two diesel engines of 4,260 kW enabling a service speed of 15 knots.

Janssonius, named after a Dutch cartographer, is due for delivery to Oceanwide Expeditions at the end of 2021 when it will join sister vessel, Hondius, also named after a Dutch cartographer and delivered from Brodosplit last year.
