Rolls-Royce lands largest-ever fishing vessel deal

Sketch of the fishing vessel

The project to build the most advanced ship of its type in a US yard will involve construction of a 100m-long pelagic trawler at Louisiana-based Thoma-Sea Marine Constructors LLC for Arctic Storm Management Group LLC of Seattle.
In addition to the Rolls-Royce NVC 336 WP design, Rolls-Royce will supply the propulsion system based on a Bergen B33:45 main engine and Bergen generator sets, a bow thruster, deck machinery systems, automation and control systems, an electrical power installation, steering gear and a flap rudder. Due for delivery in 2021, the trawler will fish for Alaska pollock and cod in the waters of the north Pacific.
Walther Thomassie, managing director of Thoma-Sea Marine Constructors, said: “We are very happy about this contract which could open possibilities within a new segment for us. Our Louisiana-based shipyard and Rolls-Royce have worked well together before, and we feel confident that this project will follow the same successful path.”
Speaking for Rolls-Royce Marine, senior vice president of Ship Design & Systems Knut Eilert Røsvik said: “Arctic Storm Management Group is a long-time customer of our products and services, and we are of course delighted that they have now chosen a complete Rolls-Royce design and integrated system for their newbuilding. Arctic Storm’s long experience in this type of fishery is of high value in our design development phase. We are not only creating a fishing vessel together, but also a fully equipped floating fish processing plant.”

Rolls-Royce Marine has won a GBP 15 million contract to provide the design and equipment package for its largest fishing vessel deal so far.
