Rolls-Royce and Finferries sign ship safety and efficiency pact

Finferries is a state-owned operator of ferry services in Finland

The two companies are planning to set up a new research project, Safer Vessel with Autonomous Navigation (SVAN), and aim to implement some of the findings from the Advanced Autonomous Waterborne Application project which formally ended in late 2017. Both companies participated in the AAWA initiative.
Senior vice president of Rolls-Royce Ship Intelligence, Karno Tenovuo, said: “We are extremely pleased that the collaboration we had with Finferries in the AAWA project is to continue. This new collaboration agreement could take safer, cleaner shipping to the next level. Rolls-Royce will develop solutions to enhance the safety and efficiency of marine operations in the ferry sector which will be demonstrated in the test platform provided by Finferries.”

Rolls-Royce and Finland’s Finferries have signed a collaboration agreement to work closely on safety, efficiency and autonomy initiatives to assist the development of decision supporting systems.
