RoCon vessels to be equipped with ballast water treatment systems

Germany-based provider of marine water treatment solutions, RWO GmbH, a subsidiary of VeoliaWater Solutions & Technologies, signed a contract with Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard to deliver CleanBallast® ballast water treatment (BWT) systems to be installed on two RoCon vessels built for French shipowner Compagnie Maritime Nantaise (CMN).

An option to equip a third vessel also exists. The newbuildings will have a loading capacity of 2,800 lane metres and 903 TEU. According to RWO, the CleanBallast® units, with a capacity of 500 m³/hr, will be delivered as skid-mounted systems, reducing installation time at the yard. In addition, CMN has decided to complete the water treatment system of the newbuildings with further one-stop-shop solutions. For onboard sewage treatment, RWO’s WWT-LC plants will be installed. Some SKIT/SDEB oil-water-separators will treat oily water. The efficient removal of the sediments is said to reduce tank-cleaning costs, prevent the loss of valuable load capacities and lead to fuel savings.
