RMC signs LOI to build RoPax ferry

New RoPax ferry to serve Vaasa-Umeå route

The order is likely to worth about 120 million euros. The ferry will have two cargo decks with a total capacity of 1,500 lane meters for trucks. In addition, it will be able to accommodate 800 passengers. It is expected to be delivered by April 30, 2021. The newbuilding is set to operate between the Finnish city of Vaasa and the Swedish city of Umea. The vessel will be designed to be environmentally friendly, with propulsion running on a dual-fuel and battery system, and the main source of power being liquefied natural gas (LNG). The ferry will also be able to use biogas which is produced in Vaasa. RMC said the ferry has an ice class of 1A Super to enable the vessel to navigate in the challenging ice conditions of the Kvarken
region as independently as possible. The formal construction contact is expected to be signed in early 2019, with the design and construction work set to start immediately afterwards, said RMC.

Finnish shipbuilder Rauma Marine Constructions Oy (RMC) has signed a letter of intent (LOI) for construction of a RoPax ferry with a hybrid propulsion system with Kvarken Link, a Finnish-

Swedish consortium.
