Radio Holland to supply IT systems for Australian Antarctic research vessel

Artist impression of the (ASRV) for the Australian Antarctic Division

The three-year project will involve central IT cabinets and switch cabinets at key locations throughout the vessel, facilitating services including CCTV, video conferencing, IP telephony, entertainment and narrow casting.
The 160m-long ASRV will be capable of breaking ice up to 1.65m thick at a speed of three knots and will supply Australia’s permanent research stations in Antarctica and Macquarie Island with cargo, equipment and personnel. It will be based in Hobart, Tasmania, but will operate for extended periods in Antarctica.
The Radio Holland set-up will also include a large computer for the storage and processing of scientific data and underwater cameras mounted on retractable units to provide a live view under the vessel while under way. The ship’s IT systems will be remotely monitored by the Radio Holland Network Operation Centre and personnel there will be able to service and support the network remotely via any satellite connection wherever the vessel is operating.

An Antarctic supply research vessel (ASRV) under construction for the Australian Antarctic Division at Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding in Vlissingen is to be equipped with IT systems supplied by Radio Holland.
