Concarneau, Bretagne-based shipyard Piriou has signed a contract with French customer Vedettes de Brehat to build two 26m-long aluminium passenger vessels. They will be used on tourist sailings to Bréhat island in North Brittany. Designed by Mer & Design, they are scheduled to be delivered first quarter of 2023.

The newbuildings will also be used for events at harbour or at sea up to 20 nautical miles from the coast.

The shape of the hull was designed to increase comfort on board and to sail in choppy seas while minimising fuel consumption. The vessels will have a high standard of environmental protection. They will have a crew of three and a maximum speed of 20 knots. Passenger capacity is between 238 to 255 persons.

Shipowner Didier Corlouer stated: "We are glad to entrust Piriou shipyard with the building of our two new vessels. We very much wished to work with a Breton company with recognized expertise".
