Optimarin lands US Coast Guard contract

The new vessels with Optimarin ballast water systems will replace existing Medium Endurance Cutters from 2021

Speaking as the deal was signed, Optimarin CEO Tore Andersen, said: “This is a banner day for Optimarin. The US Coast Guard is a flag-bearer in the fight against invasive species carried in ballast water and sets the bar for ballast water treatment regulations globally.” He went on to say that the choice of Optimarin systems by Eastern Shipbuilding Group puts the company at the forefront of the sector and is a huge endorsement of its combined ultraviolet/filtration technology.
The ‘Over-the-Horizon’ vessels, as they are known, will support US maritime security by working on border protection. Equipped with sophisticated combat systems, the new vessels will replace existing Medium Endurance Cutters from 2021.
Optimarin has now sold nearly 600 systems, with more than 400 of these installed and in operation. Last year, the company introduced the sector’s first five-year parts and service guarantees for fleet agreements.

Norwegian ballast water system manufacturer, Optimarin, has clinched a contract to provide installations for nine offshore patrol cutters (OPC) to be built at Eastern Shipbuilding Group’s Panama City shipyard for the United States Coast Guard.
