Norwegian yard Oma Baatbyggeri has signed a contract with Norwegian shipping company Norled AS for two hybrid battery-electric fast ferries of 30m length. They will carry 70 passengers at a service speed of about 22 to 25 knots.

In the near future, the yard also expects to sign a contract with Norwegian customer Floro Skyssbat AS for the delivery of one further vessel. All three vessels will operate in route package 2 (RP2) in Sogn og Fjordane in Norway.

The RP2 boats are based on the combi catamaran concept from Oma Baatbyggeri with capacity to carry a truck of 20 tonnes, alternatively it can carry 7 passenger cars in combination with 70 passengers. The ferries are delivered with hybrid battery-electric propulsion systems. In contrast to previously delivered vessels with conventional propulsion, this means the boats can run with zero emissions of carbon dioxide and 100% electric operation in most of the routes which they will operate.

With this order, Oma Baatbyggeri has enough contracts to provide work up to November 2023.
