NYK-participating projects receive subsidy

1: Experiment to confirm the effectiveness of technology to reduce frictional resistance created by a large, shallow-draft vessel equipped with a twin screw motor
 
Research conducted by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. and NYK with expected cooperation from the Monohakobi Technology Institute and NYK-Hinode Line Ltd.
 
2:R&D of vessels’ operational performance as they become larger
 
Research conducted by NYK, the Monohakobi Technology Institute, and Japan Maritime Science Inc.
 
3: Development of international navigation control system
 
Research conducted by NYK and the Monohakobi Technology Institute (MTI).
 
In addition to the subsidy from MLIT, these projects will be implemented as part of the “R&D for Reducing Greenhouse Gas in International Maritime Affairs” program, which is being jointly carried out by the Japan Ship Technology Research Association and the Nippon Foundation.
 
The NYK Group remains committed to pursuing technological innovations to suppress global warming.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), through its “Support for Technology Development from Marine Vessels for Curtailing CO2” project, has decided to subsidize through fiscal 2009 the below three projects that the Japanese shipping group NYK is currently working on in tandem with other companies for future technology development.
