Norwegian Breakaway maintenance completed at Damen’s Brest facility

The Norwegian Breakaway in the drydock
One primary reason for the docking was maintenance of the ship’s two ABB azipods which required removal of both propellers. Shipyard staff and ABB personnel worked alongside to repair the shaft bearings and replace the slewing seals.
Shipyard personnel also worked closely with Brunvoll AS representatives to undertake maintenance of the cruise vessel’s three bow thrusters, while the two Fincantieri stabilisers were dismantled, serviced and then refitted. The hull was repainted and large areas of carpet inside the vessel were removed and replaced in a carefully controlled rolling programme.
“The client chose us for this project not only because we are capable of handling a ship of this size, but also because we are close to the major cruise terminal at Southampton, which was its last port of call,” said Laurent Salou, project manager at the shipyard. “They were also very satisfied with the works that we performed on the Norwegian Epic in 2015 and I am pleased to be able to report that the client was very happy with performance of the shipyard workers and the yard on this project as well.”
