The Murman and its sister vessel Beringov Proliv will be used by Russia's sea rescue service Rosmorrechflot for patrols and rescue operations in the Northeast Passage around Murmansk.
Each vessel has a length of 87.75m, a width of 18.50m, a draught of 6.50m and features an ice class of 6, which means that it can break through ice of up to 1m thick at a speed of 1.5 knots. They offer space for a crew of up to 38.
The parallel construction of the two multi-purpose rescue and salvage vessels began in September 2013 after the order was placed in December 2012. After a construction period of approximately 17 months the naming ceremony for the two ships took place in Wismar in February 2015. Thanks to their high-tech equipment they can also carry out search and rescue missions and emergency towing operations under extreme weather conditions, while the onboard hospital enables rescued persons to be provided with medical treatment, Nordic Yard says. They also operate as firefighting and oil spill response vessels. In addition, the ships are equipped with instruments to examine the seabed and damaged objects at depths of up to 1,000m. Both have a helipad at the bow.

Nordic Yards has handed over two rescue vessels to Russia's Ministry of Transport.
