Insolvency administrator of the MV Werften Group, Dr Christoph Morgen, has passed the symbolic key of the Wismar shipyard to Bernard Meyer of Meyer Wismar. "With the handover of the shipyard to Meyer Wismar, we’re now marking the beginning of the next shipyard chapter," he declared.
The shipyard has been owned by Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems since June last year. It has now been leased back to the insolvency administrator and subleased to Meyer Werft for the completion of the cruise ship under construction in the dock hall.
Morgan explained that over the past year, arrangements had been made for the three shipyards in Eastern Germany that had been owned by MV Werften, the Hong Kong-German shipbuilding subsidiary of Genting Hong Kong. The company filed for bankruptcy in January 2022.
"Over the course of the past year, we set up good solutions for the three shipyard locations in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Neptun Ship Design, the prefabricated module plant in Wismar, the hotel in Wismar, as well as for Lloyd Werft in Bremerhaven," Morgan said.
Reinhard Meyer, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Minister of Economics, also attended the event. "The symbolic handover of the keys is the result of the successful and joint work of all stakeholders, for the employees and the shipyard," he said. „At the same time, this handover of keys confirms the actions of the state government. We firmly believe in the future of the maritime industry in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the interest of the employees and the industry of our state."
