Newbuilding for Swedish owner launched

Launch ceremony of the newbuilding

Named “Sigrid”, the newbuilding is 99.5m long and 18.6m wide with a draught of 4.5m. Twelve containers can be transported with a maximum speed of 12 knots. This is about 20% more cargo than the 30-years old predecessor “Sigyn” was able to handle.
The “Sigrid” is designed for the safe transport of spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste. For safety reasons, the newbuilding is constructed with a double hull, radiation protection, four engines and other multiple systems.
Home port of the “Sigrid” will be Oskarshamn at the east cost of Sweden.

The Netherlands-based Damen Shipyards Group recently launched a cargo ship, built for the Swedish nuclear fuel and waste management company Svensk Kärnbränslehantering AB (SKB), at Damens shipyard in Galati, Romania.
