New waterjet range launched by Rolls-Royce

A model of the new A5 waterjet series
The new A5 series will eventually replace the company’s existing FF range, providing more thrust with a 20% inboard footprint saving.
Speaking at the New Orleans launch, the company’s general manager Product – Waterjets, Fredrik Appel, said that the high-grade aluminium product range shows significant improvements compared with the existing FF series, made of steel. Available in seven sizes across a power range from 100 kW to 1.23 MW, bollard pull has been improved by 13%, steering and reversing efficiency by 8% and overall pump efficiency by 3%.
Rolls-Royce general manager Sales, Americas, commented: “The Kamewa A5 Series offers the best price per performance for vessels operating at speeds between 25 and 40 knots. It is a cost-effective waterjet solution for workboats, motor yachts, smaller passenger vessels, patrol boats and other high-speed shallow-draught vessels.”
The A5 waterjet range was developed following detailed computational fluid dynamics analysis and model scale tests at the company’s hydrodynamic research facility in Kristinehamn, Sweden.
