New partnership set to electrify inland waterway transport

Andorra-based battery manufacturer, AYK Energy, and Lithuanian ship designer, Western Baltic Engineering (WBE), have struck a new partnership to develop an electric pusher tug for inland waterway operation.

The 26m-long Electric Eel design will be powered by three DNV-approved AY

Eglė Mikalauskienė, WBE’s head of Sales and Marketing, declared that the partnership will supercharge the company’s drive to introduce the electric pusher tug to Europe’s inland waterways and other major markets including the US. “We are absolutely delighted to extend our design partnership with AYK,” she said. “AYK’s dedication to innovation, experience of the marine battery market, and ownership of their manufacturing facility in China, makes them an ideal partner to provide batteries for these vessels.”
