A new series of modular trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) designs from Netherlands-based C-Job Naval Architects will include variable features that enable clients’ requirements to be met more easily. The TSHD series promises to fill the gap between standard designs and fully tailored vessels, the company said.

Modular options will include adjustments to the main vessel parameters as well as dredging criteria including dredging depth, type and power of dredge pump, and discharge method. Hopper capacity can be easily increased or reduced in size, and the TSHD dredger range will feature a Green Passport and Clean Design notation.

Basjan Faber, CEO of the ship design firm, said: “The C-Job TSHD fleet offers the benefits of both a standard design combined with a fully tailored design and the opportunities it presents. We’ve noticed a mismatch where off-the-shelf TSHD designs will not match specific project profiles, whilst fully tailored dredgers can be seen as limiting itself to the type of project it can perform. Plus, any small adaptations to standard designs usually require a hefty fee. In comes the customisable C-Job TSHD series.”

Explaining that the company believes in client involvement at every stage, he commented: “We’re excited to take this philosophy to the next level and provide shipowners with our new and unique modular series. The C-Job TSHD fleet allows customisation while reducing engineering time. A win-win situation for our clients.”
