The Danish marine consultancy Knud E. Hansen AS says that two "new-generation" RoRo vessels ordered from China's CSC Jinling Shipyard by Copenhagen-based DFDS AS, a provider of shipping and transport services in Europe, will be among the largest in the world and "raise the bar for what is considered environmentally friendly".

Knud E. Hansen has worked closely with DFDS and CSC Jinling Shipyard over the past four months to refine and optimise the concept. It says its next task is to further develop the design into a basic design.
The EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) is a big challenge for RoRo vessels and there has been a strong focus on structural solutions and optimised hydrodynamic capabilities, Knud E. Hansen notes. During the contractual design, a preliminary model test was performed to validate the vessels' speed/power performance.
With a length of 235m and beam of 33m, the RoRo vessels have a speed of 21 knots and capacity of 6,700 lane metres for up to 450 trailers.
