New fresh water option for smaller vessels

Alfa Laval has broadened the potential market for its fresh water generating technology with the introduction of the Aqua Blue Mini that can provide from 1-18m3 of water per day as an alternative to bunkered water or reverse osmosis.

Until now, the three-in-one technology – incorporating evaporation, separation and condensation systems in a single plate pack – has been available in Alfa Laval’s Aqua Blue C- and S-types for larger water volumes of up to 60m3 per day. However, these systems were not well-suited to vessels requiring lower volumes of fresh water.

Serdar Sengun, head of Marine Heat Transfer Sales at the company, commented: “The Aqua Blue fresh water generator cuts sea water needs and electrical power consumption in half compared to previous solutions. The Aqua Blue Mini nearly cuts size in half again, but above all it brings Aqua benefits to the smallest capacity range.”

The Mini system runs on waste heat and uses only small amounts of electrical power. Maintenance is limited to occasional ‘cleaning-in-place’ and the straightforward change of non-glued gaskets. These features result in lower operating costs compared with other systems, the company said.
