MTU engines for Turkish tugs

The MTU high-speed engines are the first to be installed on harbour tugs with this level of bollard pull

The vessels will be built at Sanmar Shipyards in Turkey and the contract includes options for four more engines.
The 16V 4000 M73L engines deliver 2,700 kW each at 1,850 rpm and are the first high-speed engines to be installed on harbour tugs with this level of bollard pull. They are to be operated by Svitzer which holds a 20-year contract for terminal towage services with Tanger-Med Port, Morocco, the second busiest container port on the African continent. The tugs are due for delivery in 2018.
MTU and Sanmar Shipyard have established a close working relationship over almost a decade and half of the tugs built by the Turkish yard are now equipped with MTU engines.

Rolls-Royce Power Systems subsidiary MTU, headquartered in Friedrichshafen, Germany, is to supply eight high-speed engines for installation on four 90-tonne bollard pull Robert Allan/Rastar 2900 SX harbour tugs.
