Meyer Werft lays keel for latest P&O Cruises vessel

The keel laying ceremony for P&O Cruises’ latest ship, Iona, has taken place at Meyer Werft in Papenburg. A 461-tonne block, part of the vessel’s future foreship, was chosen for the ceremony, marking the start of construction of the LNG-powered cruise ship. Coins were placed by Paul Ludlow, president of P&O Cruises, Stephan Schmees, executive board member, Project Management, at Meyer Werft and Jürgen Storz, project leader, Meyer Werft. The 184,700gt Iona will have capacity for 5,200 passengers and 1,800 crew and will become the new flagship of the P&O Cruises fleet.
