Meyer Werft in Papenburg has delivered the 58,250gt Spirit of Adventure¸ the second of two similar vessels built for UK cruise line Saga Cruises.

The 236m-long vessel has a breadth of 31.2m and capacity for about 1000 passengers in 554 cabins, all with balconies. The ship has a crew of 540 and is powered by four MAN 9L engines and a Siemens eSiPod drive.

“Despite all the adversities in the last few months caused by the corona pandemic, we were able to complete both the construction in Papenburg and the testing and commissioning of the ship with a manageable timeframe,” said Thomas Weigend, Meyer Werft’s managing director. “This is mainly due to the good partnership with Saga Cruises, our partners, and the commitment of our teams, who completed the ship with dedication and know-how.”

Owing to the pandemic, the Spirit of Adventure will embark on its inaugural cruise later than intended. As things stand, the vessel is due to start its first voyage from the UK to the Canary Islands in early February 2021.
