Meyer Werft celebrates 225 years of shipbuilding

The Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg is celebrating its 225th anniversary. On January 28th 1795, the traditional company was founded as Thurm Werft by Willm Rolf Meyer in today's city centre. Meyer Werft, which employs more than 3,600 people, is now in the seventh generation of family ownership. The Meyer Group also includes the Neptun shipyard in Rostock-Warnemünde and Meyer Turku Oy in Finland.

In its anniversary year Meyer Werft will deliver ships with more than 400,000gt for the first time. Iona (P&O Cruises), Spirit of Adventure (Saga Cruises) and Odyssey of the Seas (Royal Caribbean International) will be handed over to international customers. Iona will be the 50th cruise ship built in Papenburg.
