Maritime Partner to build fast catamaran ferry

Vidar Hop Skyssbaater in Hardbakke, Norway, has signed a contract with Norwegian yard Maritime Partner for construction of a 16m-long catamaran passenger ferry. It is scheduled to be delivered in the second quarter of 2022.

The newbuilding is a type Alusafe Cat 16 with a capacity of 23 passengers. Alusafe Cat 16 will be built in recyclable aluminum and the hull has been developed in collaboration with Ola Lillo-Olsen in Lilloe-Design AS.

It is equipped with an electric passenger lift (gangway) at the stern and a gangway on the foredeck. In addition, equipment includes a crane and loading space on the aft deck for cargo handling. Propulsion will be environmentally friendly meeting the new IMO Tier III regulations for reduced exhaust emissions. In addition, the boat will be designed with the possibility of installing batteries for electric or hybrid operation. The cruising speed is 25 knots.
