Marinfloc secures approval to treat WinGD engine bleed-off water
Sweden’s waste water treatment specialist, Marinfloc, has won an important approval from WinGD for its CD EGR system. WinGD’s approval means that the Marinfloc system can now be used to treat exhaust gas recirculation bleed-off water from the propulsion company’s engines equipped with ‘Intelligent Control by Exhaust Recycling’ (iCER) systems.
The approval means that Marinfloc’s CD EGR will transition to the Marinfloc Water Treatment System (WTS). This membrane-free system is cheaper to run and offers a more sustainable approach to waste water treatment.
Marinfloc claims that its WTS system has a unique capability to adjust its overboard discharge capacity automatically in line with water generation while consistently supplying the iCER system with treated water. This optimisation, managed by the Discharge Control Unit tailored for the WIN GD application, significantly reduces energy consumption and the use of consumables. The result is a system that is not only cost-effective but also minimises the CO2 footprint.
Meanwhile, a human-machine interface supports system monitoring and management, Marinfloc said, with digital support systems directly accessible from a ship’s engine room. The interface also enables remote access.
Marinfloc’s managing director of Sales & Production, Martin Gombrii, said: “We want to do our part in the industry's endeavour for energy reduction and CO2 emissions, and the adaptability of the WTS is our answer. Most solutions on the market are either turned on or off, meaning the energy consumption is either 0 or 100%. We strive to be at the forefront of this and believe that such adaptable solutions are one of the industry's paths toward sustainability."
