AYK Energy and Gebhard Electro agree deals to electrify two workboats
One project within the new agreement involves the conversion of the Port of Rotterdam's patrol vessel RPA 8 from hybrid to fully electric propulsion

Marine battery manufacturer AYK Energy and Dutch maritime system integrator Gebhard Electro have agreed two new projects to electrify workboats.
The first involves a new TSHD1000 trailing suction hopper dredger being built by Damen Shipyards in the Netherlands for UK Dredging, part of Associated British Ports. The diesel-electric vessel will be equipped with a 318 kWh liquid-cooled Polaris battery system supplied by AYK Energy, while Gebhard Electro will carry out the complete electrical installation and system integration. It will be among the first Polaris systems installed by AYK following DNV type approval.
The second project is the conversion of the Port of Rotterdam’s patrol vessel RPA 8 from hybrid to fully electric propulsion. AYK will supply a 1,640 kWh PiscesA+ battery system, with Gebhard Electro responsible for integrating the electrical energy solution. The retrofit is part of the port’s efforts to develop an emission-free fleet.
The projects build on the companies’ existing cooperation, including the fully electric inland maintenance vessel VOLTA, fitted with a 2.2 MWh Aries+S battery system, and the hybrid tug VB KRACHT, which uses an 82 kWh Orion battery system.
