MAN upgrades engine oil monitor

MAN Energy Solutions has launched a new version of the MAN Fluid Monitor (MFM) and has  extended the technology to two-stroke engines (bearing-lubrication circuit). This development has led to a renaming of the product which will now be known as the MAN Multi Fluid Monitor.

This development will mean that the multi-brand system will be capable of monitoring engines of different generations, configurations, and fuels. Now, fleet managers will be able to monitor the health of marine engines across their entire fleets by using this tool.

The new monitor retains all of the features of the earlier system, with real-time continuous monitoring of engine oil condition and the ability to detect any irregularities that could risk poor performance or failure. When an anomaly is detected at an early stage of initiation before conventional oil-mist systems can detect it, an alert is generated to warn operators and provide technical recommendations.

MAN Energy Solutions France president, Arnauld Filancia, commented: “Oil contamination is a reflection of deteriorating engine health. The MAN Multi Fluid Monitor this moves from being a specialised solution for four-stroke engines to one that can be applied globally, including two-stroke engines and other industrial equipment. The system has already been installed on several hundred engines of different brands worldwide and is proving its worth.”

The company highlights its strategy of adapting to changing market requirements. The new system enables earlier reactive maintenance into predictive maintenance, it said, thereby boosting uptime and limiting the likelihood of harm to components.
