Two 242m-long RoRo vessels under construction at China’s Yantai Raffles yard for Wallenius SOL are to have LNG fuel gas supply systems and dual-fuel auxiliary engines supplied by MAN Cryo, a MAN Energy Solutions subsidiary. The ships, the largest ever to have Finnish/Swedish ice class 1A Super notation, are due for delivery in 2021 and will be deployed in a year-round service in the Gulf of Bothnia. The contract includes an option for two more ships.

MAN Cryo’s scope of supply for each vessel includes two 685m3 tanks including tank connection spaces and LNG fuel pumps, bunker stations with a capacity of 500m3/hour, and automation, emergency shutdown and gas detection systems. The combination of increased size, innovative design features and LNG propulsion is expected to cut fuel consumption by 50% and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 60% per cargo unit. Wallenius SOL was established last year by Swedish companies Wallenius Lines and Svenska Orient Linien.
