MAN to provide tailored hybrid power setup

MAN Engines is launching a new modular setup, MAN Smart Hybrid Experience, to meet the needs of individual customers as they set out up their own hybrid power arrangements on vessels.

Flexibility to combine conventional marine engines and electric motors with batteries generates countless opportunities for incorporating different degrees of hybrid power in leisure craft as well as commercial applications, the company said.

“MAN Engines offers each and every customer a tailored solution for their specific hybrid needs,” said Matthias Schreiber, head of MAN Engines. Depending on customer priorities, the MAN hybrid system can focus driving profiles on performance, comfort or efficiency. These can be set up to boost range or power, for example, or to provide a zero-emission power supply when a boat lies at anchor. Noise emissions can also be eliminated.

The new service is aimed not only at MAN Engines’ vessel-operating customers. The company also claims to provide shipyards “with a holistic system from a single source, each and every time”, using its extensive network of service stations in all major ports.
