MAN Engines upgrades portfolio for EU stage V compliance
MAN Engines has refined the emissions performance of engines in its inland waterway portfolio whilst also tripling the most powerful units from 290 kW to 882 kW. Four new engines, including two V12s and a pair of six-cylinder types, will be available from the fourth quarter of 2021, the company said.
The EU stage V-compliant engines will include two powerful units of 882 kW and 735 kW, and two smaller ones with power outputs of 412 kW and 368 kW. Improved emissions performance will be the result of MAN Engines’ modular exhaust gas aftertreatment (EGA) system, which has two distinct advantages.
It has a wide range of installation possibilities, since components can be positioned in the most convenient locations. And EGA systems can be tailored to suit different levels of NOx and particulate emissions, as required by EU regulations. For the larger engines, selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems will therefore be supplemented by diesel particulate filters.
MAN Engines’ head of Marine, Claus Benzler, said: “Additional power ratings and types of engine for EU stage V are a further building block in the continual expansion of our portfolio of marine engines.”
Development of the new units has benefited from earlier work by MAN Engines in its truck and bus division, as well its involvement in the agricultural and industrial sectors. Meanwhile, the EGA system has proved its efficiency and reliability in trials with workboats operating both on Lake Konstanz and in the Netherlands.
