MAN engines selected for two Star Cruises ships

Star Cruises is a brand of cruise and resort operator Genting Hong Kong, part of Malaysia’s Genting Group, which in April acquired German shipyards in Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund and named the group MV Werften. The move was made in line with the company’s expansion plans in the growth markets of Southeast Asia and China and in the global market for luxury cruise ships.
Genting Hong Kong recently launched the first-ever Asia-based premium cruise line brand, Dream Cruises, with two 150,000gt ships: Genting Dream, delivered this month, and World Dream, to be delivered next year. Both are equipped with engines from Germany's MAN. Genting Hong Kong also owns Crystal Cruises.  
“The cruise business is globally experiencing strong growth. This has led to very long lead times of up to ten years for new large cruise ships since only few shipyards are specialised in the very challenging construction process of cruise ships. We want to change this by having earlier delivery and incorporate the latest design as the ships are being built,” said Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Genting's chairman and CEO.
“The MV Werften sites have a long-standing tradition in shipbuilding and are in close proximity to the cluster of industries supporting cruise shipbuilding in Northern Europe,” remarked Jarmo Laakso, managing director of MV Werften.
A leading supplier of propulsion systems for cruise ships, MAN Diesel & Turbo says it has been able to significantly extend its market share in this segment in recent years and has already equipped more than 80 cruise ships with engines or complete drive systems.
