MAN and AKA land first joint contract
The deal is the first contract landed by the two companies since MAN bought a 40% stake in AKA in June.
The engine company will provide four MAN 7L21/31 gensets with alternators, and AKA will supply a 690V main switchboard, 690V-to-400V transformers, electric motors for propellers and thrusters, frequency converters for electric motors, and drive control and power management systems. The vessel is due for delivery in St Petersburg next March.
The new partnership between the companies is part of MAN’s “Basecamp 3000+” strategic development programme, launched in 2016 when the company announced plans to expand its product range in light of shipping’s increasing decarbonisation and digitisation.
