A.P. Moller-Maersk has ordered six more container ships at Hyundai Heavy Industries that can be powered by green methanol, the Danish shipowner said in a statement.

The six 17,000-TEU vessels are all to be delivered in 2025 and will sail under the flag of Denmark. They will replace existing tonnage and are expected to save about 800,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

“Green methanol is the best scalable fuel solution for this decade,” Maersk said, “and we are excited to see several other shipowners choosing this path.

” With the current order, Maersk has now ordered a total of 19 container ships equipped with dual-fuel engines able to operate on green methanol.
